Why Is My AC Not Cooling? (And What to Do About It)

Why Is My AC Running But Not Blowing Cold Air?

3. Check the breaker panel. If the breaker feeding the AC or the blower has tripped, reset it once and see whether the system restarts.
4. Walk the house and clear every supply register and return vent. Furniture, rugs, and closed registers starve the system of the airflow it needs.
5. Gently rinse the outdoor condenser with a garden hose to clear grass clippings, cottonwood, and dirt from the fins so it can shed heat.
6. If you see ice on the refrigerant lines or coil, shut the system off and give a frozen unit time to thaw fully before running it again.

Electrical faults. Burnt wiring, repeated breaker trips, or a contactor that will not pull in are signs of an electrical problem that should be handled safely by a technician, not poked at with the power on.

Persistent freezing. If the coil keeps icing over even after a new filter and a full thaw, there is an underlying airflow or refrigerant issue that will keep coming back until it is properly repaired.
